Global Warming Films to CHS

When CHS students return to classes in January 2008, they will have the chance to watch two films about Global Warming: Al Gore's "An Inconvenient Truth” and “Rising Waters”, a look at Samoa and the Republic of the Marshall Islands.

Global Warming is a serious issue for Chuuk where several coral islands in the Namanuito Atoll and Mortlock Atoll have already experienced very high tides which flooded taro patches.

Teachers interested in having their classes see this film should contact the Film Class at CHS. Kinissow chapur.

Comments at Christmas

We have big problems and trouble at our school. The problems we’ve had for a long time are no water and no lunch. Also, we have no place to study. We need to come together to solve the problems in our school. Most important, we need to tell the parents to help us to solve our problems in our school. Parents, please help!

(2)
DURING THE PAST FEW WEEKS SOME CHUUK HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHERE TAKING PICTURES AND USING THEM TO MAKE POWER POINT PRESENTATIONS.

THE FIRST TIME I TOOK PICTURES I WAS VERY SHY. BUT WHEN I CONTINUED TO TAKE MORE PICTURES I WAS NOT SHY ANY MORE BECAUSE IT WAS FUN. AND ONCE I KNEW A LITTLE ABOUT USING POWER POINT I JUST WANTED TO GO ON AND LEARN MORE KINDS OF COMPUTER PROGRAMS.

NOW I CAN USE THE COMPUTER BY MYSELF. ALSO I LISTEN CAREFULLY TO MY TEACHER TO GET SOME IDEAS FROM THE TEACHER ABOUT USING THE COMPUTER MORE.

(3)
Merry Christmas to everyone and a special greeting to all of you reading our blog. Now I have to say that here in Chuuk things are really bad because the government is horrible. We have big trouble!

A CHILDREN’S STORY FOR CHRISTMAS - WITH A GOOD LESSON FOR CHS

ONCE UPON A TIME THERE WAS A LITTLE RED HEN. ONE DAY THE LITTLE RED HEN SAID, “COME SEE WHAT I HAVE. I HAVE SOME SEEDS AND I AM GOING TO PLANT THEM. WHO WILL HELP ME PLANT THE SEEDS?”
“NOT I,” SAID THE CAT.
“NOT I,” SAID THE PIG.
“NOT I,” SAID THE DUCK.
THEN THE LITTLE RED HEN SAID, “I WILL GO PLANT THEM BY MYSELF.”
WHEN THE SEEDS WERE GROWING THE LITTLE RED HEN SAID, “WHO WILL HELP ME CUT THE WEEDS?”
“NOT I,” SAID THE CAT.
“NOT I.” SAID THE DUCK.
“NOT I,” SAID THE PIG.
THEN THE LITTLE RED HEN WENT AND CUT THE WEEDS.
WHEN THE WHEAT HAD GROWN SHE ASKED, “WHO WILL HELP ME GATHER THE WHEAT.”
“NOT I,” SAID THE DUCK.
“NOT I,” SAID THE CAT.
“NOT I,” SAID THE PIG.
“I KNOW,” SAID THE LITTLE RED HEN, “I WILL GATHER THE WHEAT.”
AFTER THAT SHE ASKED, “WHO WILL HELP ME BAKE THE BREAD?” “NOT I,” SAID THE CAT.
“NOT I,” SAID THE PIG.
“NOT I,” SAID THE DUCK.
“I KNOW, I WILL BAKE IT BY MYSELF.”
THEN SHE BAKED IT BY HERSELF.
SHE THEN SAID, “WHO WILL HELP ME EAT THE BREAD?”
“I WILL,” SAID THE CAT.
“I WILL,” SAID THE PIG.
“I WILL,” SAID THE DUCK.
“NO YOU WON’T EAT THE BREAD! YOU DID NOT HELP ME PLANT THE SEEDS. YOU DID NOT HELP ME CUT THE WEEDS. YOU DID NOT HELP ME GATHER THE WHEAT. YOU DID NOT HELP ME BAKE THE BREAD. SO YOU WILL NOT HELP ME EAT THE BREAD. I WILL EAT IT BY MYSELF.”
THE CAT, PIG AND DUCK WERE CRYING AND CRYING AND THE LITTLE RED HEN LAUGHED AT THEM.

Some people are like the duck, the pig and the cat. They want to sit around, do nothing and have someone pay them and take care of them. Other people are like the Little Red Hen. She works hard to make sure there is something to eat.

We need the “Little Red Hen” in Chuuk…

Problems

The problem at Chuuk High School (CHS) and for the students, is that we don’t have a lunch program and no water to drink.

If I was to compare this school and the school I attended before I’d say it is really different. Why? Because at the other school students don’t have to worry very much about anything, all they had to worry about was coming to school and be prepared for class.

But here at Chuuk High School we have many problems to face. One problem we have to worry about is whether our teachers are going to come to school or are we just going to hang around and waste our time sitting inside the gate, and not learning anything.

Andrew Kerr of ECIM with CHS's Annmary Tachuo

Episcopal Church in Micronesia (ECIM) Outreach Program

SHIP/HOOPS wishes to express its gratitude to the ECIM for conducting an outreach program to Chuuk. Andrew Kerr of the Episcopal Church in Micronesia (ECIM) came to Chuuk and worked with SHIP/HOOPS. Andrew has been teaching Chuuk High School students how to make Power Point and other audiovisual presentations and how to use the Internet more effectively.

Not stopping there, the Episcopal Church in Micronesia (ECIM) is raising money and equipment to help support the Chuukese NGO, SHIP/HOOPS. Led by teacher, Clark Graham, SHIP/HOOPS provides education opportunities through linking students to their culture and rich history, and engaging them athletically in team sports. Currently, Clark is operating a small, portable Macintosh computer lab and is in dire need of equipment and money to help repair the laptops (all is equipment is 2nd hand or older). All of the equipment has to be portable because of security and power concerns. ECIM is a registered 501(c)3 and all equipment and cash contributions are tax deductible. Your old computer equipment could make a huge difference in a child’s education.

On behalf of the students, SHIP/HOOPS wants to say “kinissow chapur” (thank you very much).

Welcome to the CHS Blog Site

This is a story about our school. At our school there is no water, and no lunch.

The education department is not giving us much support. Most students of chuuk don't see our big problem. We are not sure when our school will be closing down but some of the students don't agree with the idea.
