ONCE UPON A TIME THERE WAS A LITTLE RED HEN. ONE DAY THE LITTLE RED HEN SAID, “COME SEE WHAT I HAVE. I HAVE SOME SEEDS AND I AM GOING TO PLANT THEM. WHO WILL HELP ME PLANT THE SEEDS?”
“NOT I,” SAID THE CAT.
“NOT I,” SAID THE PIG.
“NOT I,” SAID THE DUCK.
THEN THE LITTLE RED HEN SAID, “I WILL GO PLANT THEM BY MYSELF.”
WHEN THE SEEDS WERE GROWING THE LITTLE RED HEN SAID, “WHO WILL HELP ME CUT THE WEEDS?”
“NOT I,” SAID THE CAT.
“NOT I.” SAID THE DUCK.
“NOT I,” SAID THE PIG.
THEN THE LITTLE RED HEN WENT AND CUT THE WEEDS.
WHEN THE WHEAT HAD GROWN SHE ASKED, “WHO WILL HELP ME GATHER THE WHEAT.”
“NOT I,” SAID THE DUCK.
“NOT I,” SAID THE CAT.
“NOT I,” SAID THE PIG.
“I KNOW,” SAID THE LITTLE RED HEN, “I WILL GATHER THE WHEAT.”
AFTER THAT SHE ASKED, “WHO WILL HELP ME BAKE THE BREAD?” “NOT I,” SAID THE CAT.
“NOT I,” SAID THE PIG.
“NOT I,” SAID THE DUCK.
“I KNOW, I WILL BAKE IT BY MYSELF.”
THEN SHE BAKED IT BY HERSELF.
SHE THEN SAID, “WHO WILL HELP ME EAT THE BREAD?”
“I WILL,” SAID THE CAT.
“I WILL,” SAID THE PIG.
“I WILL,” SAID THE DUCK.
“NO YOU WON’T EAT THE BREAD! YOU DID NOT HELP ME PLANT THE SEEDS. YOU DID NOT HELP ME CUT THE WEEDS. YOU DID NOT HELP ME GATHER THE WHEAT. YOU DID NOT HELP ME BAKE THE BREAD. SO YOU WILL NOT HELP ME EAT THE BREAD. I WILL EAT IT BY MYSELF.”
THE CAT, PIG AND DUCK WERE CRYING AND CRYING AND THE LITTLE RED HEN LAUGHED AT THEM.
Some people are like the duck, the pig and the cat. They want to sit around, do nothing and have someone pay them and take care of them. Other people are like the Little Red Hen. She works hard to make sure there is something to eat.
We need the “Little Red Hen” in Chuuk…
